About Pilates

what is pilates?

The Pilates method of mind and body conditioning was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920’s. Different from many forms of exercise that work larger, exterior muscle groups, Pilates works deeper muscle layers and stabilizers. Specific exercises are designed to concurrently strengthen and stretch muscles.

Pilates clients will experience enhanced flexibility and enjoy a more streamlined shape. Movement coupled with breathing patterns enable the client to increase range of motion and isolate muscles with optimal efficiency. Our focus is on total body alignment and strengthening of the body’s core - stomach, back & muscles that support the spine – leading to improved posture, balance and functional strength needed to perform other sports and daily activities.

The Pilates method is a non-strenuous, non-impact exercise program that increases body awareness for clients of any age, weight or fitness level. Similar to yoga practice and massage therapy, a client typically leaves a Pilates workout feeling relaxed and able to move more easily.
